1. Definitions
- "Platform" refers to the .git web interface, CLI tools, APIs, and documentation.
- "User Content" means any code, repositories, configurations, data, or materials you upload, store, or process through the Service.
- "Organization" refers to a team or account structure within .git used to manage multiple users and projects.
2. Account Registration & Security
To access certain features, you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate, current information and to update it as necessary. You are solely responsible for safeguarding your credentials and for all activity under your account. .git does not warrant the security of any information transmitted to or from the Service, though we employ industry-standard encryption and access controls.
3. Acceptable Use Policy
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Host, distribute, or facilitate malware, ransomware, or other malicious software;
- Conduct distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks or abuse .git infrastructure to target third parties;
- Violate any applicable laws, regulations, or third-party intellectual property rights;
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from .git proprietary software;
- Use automated systems to scrape, mine, or copy Platform data without explicit permission.
.git reserves the right to suspend or terminate access if we determine, in our sole discretion, that a violation has occurred.
4. Intellectual Property Rights
Except for User Content, the Service and its original content, features, functionality, and software are owned by .git and its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. All trademarks, service marks, and trade names displayed on the Platform are the property of their respective owners. Your use of the Service does not grant you any ownership rights in the Platform.
5. User Content & Data Ownership
You retain all ownership rights to your User Content. By using the Service, you grant .git a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, process, reproduce, and display your User Content solely to provide and improve the Service. We will never claim ownership of your code or use it for commercial purposes without your explicit consent.
6. Service Availability & Modifications
.git strives for high availability but does not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free service. We may periodically modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service to perform maintenance, upgrade systems, or respond to security threats. We will provide reasonable notice for planned outages when possible.
7. Termination
Either party may terminate this agreement at any time. Upon termination, your right to use the Service will immediately cease. All provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, and liability limitations.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, .GIT DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
9. Limitation of Liability
IN NO EVENT SHALL .GIT, ITS AFFILIATES, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT PAID BY YOU, IF ANY, TO .GIT IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless .git and its affiliates from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses arising out of or related to your breach of these Terms or your violation of any third-party rights.
11. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms shall be resolved through binding individual arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association, except for claims that fall within the small claims court jurisdiction.
12. Changes to These Terms
.git may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by posting a notice on the Service or via email. Your continued use of the Service after such changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
