Why Preserve Angelfire?

Angelfire was one of the last bastions of unfiltered, user-generated web culture before social media homogenized online expression. From hand-coded HTML tables to animated GIF banners, these sites captured a unique moment in digital history.

When Angelfire shut down in 2009, millions of pages vanished. Our preservation team worked with Internet Archive partners, old server dumps, and volunteer digital archaeologists to reconstruct over 140,000 sites using period-accurate rendering engines.

Every archived page includes original source code, embedded assets, and visitor counter states frozen in time. Researchers, designers, and nostalgists can explore the unvarnished early web.
