Macromedia Shockwave defined an era of interactive web gaming. Before HTML5 and modern WebGL, Shockwave powered everything from casual browser puzzles to full-scale 3D adventures. This collection preserves original DCR and SWF files, metadata, and playfiles, running in our custom browser emulator that replicates the 100k–56k dial-up web experience while maintaining full interactivity.

⚙️ Preservation & Emulation Notes

The Shockwave collection utilizes a multi-layered preservation strategy. Original DCR (Director Cast) and SWF files are stored in WARC containers with cryptographic verification. Browser playback is handled by our forked Shockwave-to-WebAssembly compiler, which translates Lingo scripts and Director stage logic into modern HTML5 Canvas/WebGL output while preserving exact timing, frame rates, and asset integrity.

Games marked "Requires Plugin" retain their original runtime dependencies for offline archival purposes and can be accessed via our secure sandboxed VM environment. All interactive assets are checksummed against Macromedia's official 2006 release database. Researchers and developers can request raw project files via the Academic API.
