Guidelines for accessing, utilizing, citing, and distributing content from Aevum Encyclopedia.

1. Overview

Aevum Encyclopedia is committed to democratizing access to verified, expert-reviewed knowledge. This policy outlines what you are permitted to do with our content, how to properly attribute it, and the boundaries of acceptable use. By accessing our platform, you agree to comply with these terms.

Note: Aevum Encyclopedia content is protected by intellectual property laws and specific licensing terms. Unauthorized reproduction, modification, or commercial exploitation without compliance may result in account suspension or legal action.

2. Permitted Uses

You are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Aevum Encyclopedia content for the following purposes:

  • Personal & Educational Use: Reading, downloading, printing, or sharing articles for private study, classroom instruction, or academic research.
  • Citation & Reference: Quoting excerpts (up to 500 words per article) in scholarly papers, blogs, news articles, or presentations, provided proper attribution is given.
  • Non-Commercial Distribution: Sharing direct links to articles or embedding responsive iframes on personal or institutional websites without modifying the source content.
  • Accessibility Adaptation: Converting text to audio, braille, or screen-reader formats strictly for personal or assistive use, without redistribution.

3. Attribution Requirements

Any use requiring attribution must include the following elements in a clearly visible manner:

  1. Article title and author/contributor name (if applicable)
  2. Platform name: Aevum Encyclopedia
  3. Direct URL to the specific article
  4. Date of access

Failure to provide accurate attribution will constitute a breach of this policy and may result in removal of content and access restrictions.

4. Commercial & Enterprise Use

Using Aevum Encyclopedia content for profit-driven activities, product development, or institutional training requires explicit licensing.

4.1 What Requires a License?

  • Integrating articles into paid courses, textbooks, or subscription services
  • Using content for marketing, advertising, or brand partnerships
  • Redistributing large datasets or compiled anthologies
  • Corporate onboarding, internal knowledge bases, or SaaS integration

Commercial entities must contact our Licensing Team to obtain a Custom Enterprise Agreement. Unauthorized commercial use is strictly prohibited.

5. AI & Algorithmic Use

We recognize the evolving role of artificial intelligence in knowledge consumption. The following rules apply to automated systems:

  • Training Data: Aevum content may not be used to train, fine-tune, or benchmark AI models without prior written consent and a Data Use Agreement.
  • Scraping & Crawling: Automated extraction, web scraping, or bulk downloading is prohibited except via our official API. Rate limits and access tokens apply.
  • AI Summarization: Third-party AI tools may summarize articles for personal use, but must not claim original authorship or alter factual context.

Our AI-enhanced features are for human-assisted learning. We do not permit algorithmic reproduction, synthetic content generation, or automated resale of our knowledge graph.

6. Restrictions

The following actions are strictly prohibited:

  • Modifying, translating, or remixing content and presenting it as your own
  • Removing watermarks, metadata, attribution notices, or tracking parameters
  • Using content to promote illegal activities, hate speech, misinformation, or harmful conduct
  • Reselling, sublicensing, or monetizing articles without a commercial license
  • Hosting mirrored copies of articles on third-party domains without permission

7. Licensing Framework

Aevum Encyclopedia content is distributed under a tiered licensing model to balance open access with creator rights:

📜 Standard License: CC BY-NC-SA 4.0

Most articles fall under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 license. This permits sharing and adaptation for non-commercial purposes, provided credit is given and derivatives carry the same license.

Specialized content (e.g., proprietary research, licensed media, partner publications) may carry All Rights Reserved or CC BY-NC-ND terms, clearly marked at the article footer.

8. Permission Requests & Exceptions

If your use case falls outside these guidelines, or if you require exceptions for academic publishing, institutional partnerships, or accessibility projects, please submit a formal request.
