Overview

Your Fundamental Rights

Data protection laws — including the GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, LGPD, and other regional regulations — grant you specific rights over your personal data. Below is a comprehensive overview of each right and what it means for you as an Aevum Encyclopedia user.

👁️

Right of Access

You can request a copy of all personal data we hold about you, including what we collect, why, and who we share it with.

✏️

Right to Rectification

If any of your personal data is inaccurate or incomplete, you have the right to have it corrected or updated.

🗑️

Right to Erasure

You may request that we delete your personal data under certain conditions, commonly known as the "right to be forgotten."

⏸️

Right to Restrict Processing

You can ask us to temporarily stop processing your data in certain circumstances while a dispute or review is ongoing.

📦

Right to Data Portability

You can request a machine-readable copy of your data and have it transferred to another service provider if technically feasible.

🚫

Right to Object

You can object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing purposes at any time.

↩️

Right to Withdraw Consent

Where processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time, with the same ease with which it was given.

2
Right of Access

Requesting Access to Your Data

You have the right to confirm whether we are processing your personal data and, if so, to obtain a copy of that data. This is often referred to as a Subject Access Request (SAR).

What You'll Receive

Upon a valid request, we will provide you with:

💡 Did You Know?

You can also access most of your personal data directly through your Aevum Encyclopedia account settings. Navigate to Settings → Privacy → Data Overview to view and download your data at any time without filing a formal request.

We will respond to your request within 30 calendar days. If your request is particularly complex, we may extend this period by up to 60 additional days, but we will notify you of any extension within the initial 30-day window.

3
Right to Rectification

Correcting Inaccurate Data

If you believe any personal data we hold about you is inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated, you have the right to have it corrected.

Common Examples

You can update most information directly through your Account Settings. For data we cannot provide a self-service edit for, submit a request and we will verify and correct the information as soon as possible.

4
Right to Erasure

Requesting Deletion of Your Data

Under certain circumstances, you may request that we delete your personal data. This is sometimes called the "right to be forgotten."

When Can You Request Erasure?

⚠️ Important Limitations

We may be unable to fully erase your data in certain situations, including: (a) where we are legally required to retain it (e.g., for tax, accounting, or legal dispute purposes); (b) where erasure would prevent another user from exercising their freedom of expression; or (c) where the data is part of publicly published encyclopedia content that cannot be retroactively altered without affecting article integrity.

5
Right to Restrict Processing

Limiting How We Use Your Data

You can request that we restrict (i.e., temporarily halt) the processing of your personal data in the following scenarios:

When processing is restricted, we may still store your data but will not use it further without your consent or for specific limited purposes (e.g., handling a legal claim).

6
Right to Data Portability

Transferring Your Data

You have the right to receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format, and to transmit that data to another controller where technically feasible.

✅ Self-Service Export

Go to Settings → Privacy → Download My Data to export your data in JSON or CSV format. Your export will include your profile data, contribution history, bookmarks, reading history, and saved searches.

7
Right to Object

Objecting to Data Processing

You can object to the processing of your personal data at any time in the following circumstances:

Direct Marketing

If you object to the use of your data for direct marketing, we will stop processing your data for that purpose immediately. There are no exceptions.

Legitimate Interests

Where we process your data based on our legitimate interests, you can object. We will then assess whether our interests override yours and inform you of our decision.

Scientific & Historical Research

You may object to processing for scientific or historical research purposes, unless we demonstrate that our processing is necessary for tasks carried out in the public interest.

8
Right to Withdraw Consent

Withdrawing Your Consent

Where we rely on your consent to process personal data, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.

You can withdraw consent by:

💡 Withdrawal vs. Erasure

Withdrawing consent is not the same as requesting erasure. Some data may continue to be processed on other legal bases (e.g., contractual necessity or legal obligation) even after you withdraw consent for specific purposes.

9
Automated Decision-Making

Your Rights Regarding Automated Processing

You have the right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing, including profiling, which produces legal effects or similarly significantly affects you.
