- Moral Hazard: Critics argue offsetting allows polluters to delay real decarbonization, treating the atmosphere as a financial ledger rather than an ecological boundary.
Regulatory bodies are responding with stricter standards (ICVCM, ISSB), mandatory disclosure requirements, and enhanced MRV (Measurement, Reporting, Verification) protocols leveraging satellite imagery and AI.[9]
