Content Moderation Policies
1. Introduction & Scope
Aevum Encyclopedia is committed to maintaining a safe, accurate, and inclusive knowledge platform for researchers, students, and lifelong learners worldwide. This document outlines the standards, processes, and enforcement mechanisms governing all user-generated contributions, editorial submissions, and AI-assisted content across our platform.
Our moderation framework operates on three pillars: accuracy, neutrality, and respect. All content is subject to automated screening, expert review, and community oversight in accordance with applicable international laws and academic standards.
2. Core Moderation Principles
Every article, comment, upload, and metadata entry must align with the following foundational standards:
- Verifiability: Claims must be traceable to reputable, primary or peer-reviewed sources. Unverifiable assertions, personal opinions, or speculative theories must be clearly labeled or removed.
- Neutral Point of View: Content must represent all significant, published perspectives on a topic fairly and proportionally, without editorializing or promoting a single ideology.
- Academic Integrity: Plagiarism, citation manipulation, and undisclosed AI-generated text are strictly prohibited. All contributions must credit original authors and datasets.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Entries covering historical, religious, or sociopolitical topics must be reviewed by domain experts to prevent bias, stereotyping, or cultural erasure.
Zero-Tolerance Thresholds
Content that violates human rights, promotes illegal activities, incites violence, or contains non-consensual explicit material is subject to immediate removal and account suspension, without appeal.
3. Acceptable vs. Prohibited Content
To ensure clarity and consistency, we categorize submissions into three moderation tiers:
| Category | Description | Moderation Action |
|---|---|---|
| Approved | Peer-reviewed, properly cited, neutral, and structurally sound entries | Published |
| Under Review | Contains unverifiable claims, requires expert validation, or needs structural/formatting corrections | Flagged for Editorial |
| Rejected | Plagiarized, demonstrably false, biased, defamatory, or violates community guidelines | Removed & Notified |
4. Moderation Workflow
Aevum employs a hybrid moderation system combining AI-assisted screening with human expert oversight:
- Automated Pre-Screening: All submissions pass through our proprietary AI pipeline, which checks for citation validity, bias indicators, copyright flags, and policy violations.
- Subject-Matter Routing: Content is assigned to verified editors based on disciplinary expertise (e.g., Physics, History, Linguistics, Public Health).
- Multi-Layer Review: Editors verify sources, check neutrality, and ensure formatting aligns with our style guide. Disputed entries undergo peer arbitration.
- Publication & Monitoring: Approved articles enter the live knowledge graph. Post-publication, they remain subject to community flags and periodic AI audits.
Transparency Commitment
All moderation decisions are logged and visible to the contributing author. You may view review notes, revision history, and expert feedback in your contributor dashboard.
5. Community Reporting & Enforcement
Our community is our first line of defense. Users may flag content via the "Report" option available on every article, comment, and media upload. Reports are categorized and prioritized as follows:
- Urgent/Safety: Violent threats, illegal content, or harassment → Reviewed within 2 hours
- Accuracy/Citation: Factual errors, broken references, or bias → Reviewed within 24 hours
- Formatting/Style: Structural issues, translation errors, or metadata gaps → Reviewed within 72 hours
Repeat offenders or accounts engaging in coordinated manipulation campaigns will be subject to progressive enforcement: warnings, temporary restrictions, or permanent bans.
6. Appeals Process
We recognize that moderation involves human and algorithmic judgment. If you believe your content was incorrectly removed or flagged, you may file an appeal within 14 days of notification.
How to Appeal:
- Log into your contributor account and navigate to
Dashboard > Moderation > Disputes - Select the affected submission and provide a detailed justification, including revised sources or clarifications
- Our Independent Review Panel will evaluate your appeal within 5 business days
Appeal Outcomes
Approved appeals result in content restoration with editorial notes. Rejected appeals may be re-submitted once, provided all original concerns are resolved. Final decisions by the Review Panel are binding.
7. Policy Updates & Compliance
This policy is reviewed quarterly to align with evolving academic standards, jurisdictional regulations, and platform advancements. Material changes will be communicated via email, in-app notifications, and banner announcements at least 30 days before enforcement.
By contributing to Aevum Encyclopedia, you acknowledge that your submissions may be edited, flagged, or removed in accordance with these guidelines. Continued use of the platform constitutes acceptance of the current version of this policy.
