1. Our Commitment to Digital Rights

Aevum Encyclopedia operates on the principle that knowledge is a fundamental human right. We are committed to preserving digital freedom, ensuring equitable access to information, and protecting the rights of both our global community of contributors and our readers. This policy outlines how we uphold these values across our platform, technologies, and editorial processes.

We reject censorship, opaque moderation, and exploitative data practices. Every policy decision we make is guided by transparency, academic integrity, and respect for user autonomy.

2. Open Licensing & Content Reuse

All original textual content on Aevum Encyclopedia is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) license, unless explicitly noted otherwise.

Media assets (images, audio, video) are licensed individually. Each file includes a metadata block specifying its license (CC0, CC BY, CC BY-NC, or public domain). We maintain a strict verification pipeline to ensure licensing metadata is accurate and machine-readable.

3. Contributor Rights & Editorial Freedom

Contributors retain copyright over their original submissions but grant Aevum a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide license to host, distribute, and adapt their work under CC BY-SA 4.0. Contributors may:

• Edit or retract their contributions at any time before final archival.
• Request attribution formatting to match institutional or academic standards.
• Opt out of AI training for their specific contributions without penalty.
• Appeal editorial decisions through our transparent moderation board.

We prohibit anonymous corporate or state-sponsored editing without clear disclosure. All paid editing relationships must be registered in our transparency ledger.

4. AI, Data & Algorithmic Transparency

Aevum utilizes AI for search optimization, language translation, citation verification, and accessibility features. Our AI systems are bound by the following principles:

1. No covert tracking: AI models do not log personal identifiers, IP addresses, or reading habits.
2. Opt-in training data: User-generated content is excluded from external model training unless explicitly consented via our contributor dashboard.
3. Explainable outputs: AI-generated summaries or cross-references include source citations and confidence scores.
4. Human oversight: AI-assisted editorial suggestions require human verification before publication.

We publish annual algorithmic audits detailing model performance, bias mitigation strategies, and error rates.

5. Copyright & Fair Use Compliance

We respect intellectual property rights and comply with applicable international copyright frameworks, including the DMCA, EU Copyright Directive, and Berne Convention. However, we also champion fair use for educational, transformative, and research purposes.

• Zero third-party trackers: No cookies, fingerprinting, or behavioral analytics.
• End-to-end encryption for all account communications and submission drafts.
• Right to anonymity: Read and contribute without mandatory identification.
• Data portability: Export your contribution history, preferences, and saved collections at any time.
• Jurisdiction neutrality: Content availability is not restricted by national censorship laws where legally permissible.

7. Accessibility & Inclusive Access

Knowledge must be accessible to all. Aevum meets WCAG 2.2 AA standards and provides:

• Keyboard-only navigation and screen reader optimization
• Dynamic font scaling and high-contrast modes
• Offline PWA support and low-bandwidth text-only view
• Alternative text for all media, generated and verified by contributors
• Translation pipelines for 140+ languages, prioritizing marginalized and low-resource languages

8. Enforcement & Appeals

We enforce this policy through a transparent, community-informed process. Violations of digital rights, including harassment, doxxing, or systematic censorship, result in progressive sanctions up to permanent account suspension.

All enforcement actions are documented in our Transparency Dashboard. Contributors and users may file appeals within 30 days. Appeals are reviewed by an independent ethics committee comprising academics, digital rights advocates, and community representatives.
