Code of Conduct

Our commitment to ethical journalism, professional conduct, and unwavering integrity in everything we do.

📅 Effective Date: January 1, 2025 👥 Applies to: All Staff, Contributors, Contractors

1. Introduction & Scope

Aevum News exists to inform, not to manipulate. This Code of Conduct establishes the ethical, professional, and operational standards that govern our journalism, workplace environment, and public commitments. It applies to every employee, freelance contributor, intern, and contractor associated with Aevum News.

Our foundation rests on three pillars: Truth, Transparency, and Responsibility. Deviation from these principles undermines the trust we have built with our readers and the public.

All members of our organization are expected to familiarize themselves with this document, ask questions when uncertain, and hold themselves and their peers accountable to these standards.

2. Journalistic Integrity

Accuracy and fairness are non-negotiable. Every piece of content published under the Aevum News banner must adhere to the following standards:

  • Verification: All facts, figures, and quotations must be cross-referenced with primary sources before publication.
  • Independence: Editorial decisions remain free from political, corporate, or personal influence.
  • Transparency: Clear labeling of opinion, analysis, sponsored content, and user-generated material. No editorial content may be disguised as advertising.
  • Source Protection: Confidential sources will be protected to the fullest extent permitted by law. Anonymity is granted only when essential and approved by senior editorial staff.
  • Conflict of Interest: Staff must disclose any financial, personal, or professional relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing their reporting.
  • Corrections: Errors will be corrected promptly, clearly, and proportionally to the original mistake. Corrections are published with timestamps and explanations.

3. Workplace Conduct

Aevum News is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment where diverse perspectives drive better journalism.

Respect & Inclusion

We prohibit discrimination and harassment of any kind, whether based on race, ethnicity, gender, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation, or national origin. Every interaction—editorial, administrative, or social—must reflect mutual respect.

Professional Boundaries

Relationships between supervisors and direct reports are strictly regulated to prevent coercion or perceived favoritism. Romantic or personal relationships must be disclosed to HR if they impact workflow or hierarchy.

Data & Privacy

Employee and reader data are handled with strict confidentiality. Unauthorized access, sharing, or misuse of internal databases, emails, or subscriber information is grounds for immediate disciplinary action.

4. Legal & Regulatory Compliance

Aevum News operates within the legal frameworks of the jurisdictions in which we publish. All content must comply with laws regarding defamation, copyright, privacy, and national security.

  • Copyright & Attribution: Only properly licensed or fair-use material may be used. All third-party content requires clear attribution.
  • Advertising Standards: Sponsorships, native advertising, and partnerships must be clearly labeled. Editorial and commercial teams operate independently.
  • Whistleblower Protection: Individuals who report ethical or legal violations in good faith are protected from retaliation. Anonymous reporting channels are available.

5. Reporting & Accountability

Maintaining this code requires vigilance from everyone. If you witness or experience a violation:

  • Report concerns directly to your editor, HR representative, or through our secure ethics hotline.
  • All reports are investigated promptly, impartially, and confidentially.
  • Retaliation against reporters is strictly prohibited and will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

Severity of violations determines consequences, ranging from mandatory training and formal warnings to suspension or termination. Repeated or egregious breaches may involve legal authorities.

6. Acknowledgment

By accepting a role with Aevum News—whether permanent, freelance, or contracted—you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct.

This document is reviewed annually and may be updated to reflect changes in media law, industry standards, or organizational policy. Updated versions will be communicated to all staff.
