Why We Review

At Aevum News, credibility is our currency. The Peer Review Policy establishes a mandatory, multi-layer editorial process for all long-form reporting, investigative features, data journalism, and fact-heavy editorial content. This policy applies to all contributors, freelance writers, staff journalists, and syndicated partners before publication.

Short-form updates, press releases, and opinion/analysis pieces follow a streamlined editorial check, but may be escalated to full peer review at the discretion of the Editorial Director if they contain significant factual claims or sensitive reporting.

How Content Moves Through Review

01

Submission & Triage

Manuscripts are submitted via the internal editorial portal. The managing editor assigns a primary reviewer and identifies subject-matter experts (SMEs) for technical, legal, or scientific claims.

02

Independent Fact-Checking

A dedicated fact-checker verifies every named entity, statistic, quote, and document reference. Primary sources are prioritized. Unverifiable claims are flagged for revision or removal.

03

Peer & Expert Review

At least two qualified reviewers assess the piece for accuracy, balance, contextual integrity, and compliance with our style and ethics guidelines. Conflicts of interest are declared and managed.

04

Editorial Arbitration & Approval

Final approvals rest with the Senior Editorial Board. Disputes are resolved through documented editorial arbitration. Published pieces retain an internal version history for transparency.

What We Evaluate

Factual Accuracy

Every claim must be supported by verified evidence. Numbers, dates, and attributions are cross-checked against at least two independent sources.

Contextual Integrity

Quotes are never edited to distort meaning. Data is presented with appropriate caveats. Historical, scientific, or legal contexts are accurately represented.

Conflict of Interest

Reviewers and authors must disclose financial, professional, or personal relationships with subjects. Recusal is mandatory when conflicts exist.

Accessibility & Clarity

Content is reviewed for readability, inclusive language, and adherence to ARIA/web accessibility guidelines where applicable.

Accountability & Reader Trust

Publishing is iterative. If errors are identified post-publication—whether through peer review feedback, reader reports, or internal audits—Aevum News commits to:

  1. Immediate Correction: Clear, timestamped errata published at the top of the article with a link to the original correction.
  2. Editorial Review: Root-cause analysis conducted within 48 hours to prevent recurrence.
  3. Reader Appeals: A transparent submission process for verified reader concerns, reviewed by the Standards Committee weekly.

We do not remove legitimate reporting due to controversy. Corrections are limited to factual inaccuracies, not editorial judgment or perspective.

Policy Governance

This policy is overseen by the Aevum News Editorial Standards Committee, comprising senior editors, legal advisors, and external journalism ethics consultants. It is reviewed annually and updated to reflect evolving media standards, regulatory requirements, and technological shifts in reporting.

All staff and contributors undergo mandatory peer review training upon onboarding and biannual refreshers. Compliance is tracked through the editorial management system.
