Overview

Whether you're commuting on a crowded train, traveling to a remote location, or simply want to conserve mobile data, Aevum News makes it easy to save articles for offline access. This guide walks you through every method available, how to manage your downloaded content, and how to troubleshoot common issues.

All saved articles retain full formatting, embedded images, and interactive charts. Video content and paywalled multimedia require an active subscription and may have additional storage limits.

Why Read Offline?

  • Zero data usage: Download once, read infinitely without burning through cellular bandwidth.
  • Instant loading: No buffering, no spinner delays—articles open instantly from your device storage.
  • Focus mode: Eliminate notifications and auto-refresh cycles for a distraction-free reading experience.
  • Travel-ready: Access critical updates, maps, and guides even in areas with spotty connectivity.

Saving on Mobile (iOS & Android)

The Aevum News app offers the most seamless offline experience. Follow these steps:

STEP 1

Open Your Target Article

Navigate to the story you want to save. You can access this from your feed, search results, or a shared link.

STEP 2

Tap the Save Icon

Look for the bookmark/download icon (📥) near the top-right corner of the article header. Tap it once.

STEP 3

Confirm Download Settings

A toast notification will appear: "Downloading for offline access...". You can choose to include high-res images or opt for data-saver mode (text + compressed images).

STEP 4

Access Offline Library

Open the bottom navigation menu → tap "Library" → select "Downloads". All saved articles appear here, sorted by most recent.

💡
Auto-Download Feature

Go to Settings → Reading → Enable "Auto-download on Wi-Fi". The app will automatically save stories you've read or bookmarked when connected to trusted networks.

Saving on Desktop & Web Browser

While our full offline library syncs best through the native apps, web users have several reliable options:

Option A: Install as Web App (PWA)

1. Open any Aevum News article in Chrome, Edge, or Safari.
2. Click the browser toolbar's "Install" or "Add to Home Screen" prompt.
3. Once installed, use the app's built-in save button (same as mobile).
4. Articles are cached locally and accessible via chrome://appcache-internals or your device's app manager.

Option B: Browser "Save Page"

Press Ctrl+S (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+S (Mac) while viewing an article. Choose "Complete" to preserve images and layout. Files save to your default Downloads folder.

Option C: Print to PDF

Use Ctrl+P / Cmd+P, select "Save as PDF", and check "Background graphics" for optimal formatting. This is ideal for archival or annotation workflows.

⚠️
Browser Limitations

Standard browser caching expires after 30 days. For long-term offline access, we recommend using the native iOS/Android app or exporting to PDF.

Managing Your Offline Library

As your collection grows, you'll want to optimize storage and keep your library organized.

  • Set storage limits: Settings → Storage → "Auto-delete downloads older than X days". Default is 30 days.
  • Organize by folder: Tap and hold any downloaded article → "Move to Collection" → create or select a custom folder (e.g., "Research", "Weekend Read").
  • Clear cache: Settings → Storage → "Clear cached data". This removes temporary files but keeps explicitly saved articles intact.
  • Sync across devices: Logged-in users with Premium subscriptions automatically sync their offline library across up to 3 devices.

Troubleshooting

Article won't save or shows "Offline Unavailable"

Some content types include dynamic ads, live data widgets, or third-party embeds that prevent offline caching. Try refreshing the page and tapping save again. If it persists, the article may be excluded for licensing reasons.

Downloads disappear after app update

Major app updates sometimes clear the local cache. Ensure "Cloud backup" is enabled in Settings → Sync. Your library will repopulate automatically when you reconnect to Wi-Fi.

Images fail to load offline

Check your download quality setting. If "Data Saver" was enabled during download, images may be stripped. Re-save with "Full Quality" selected.

Pro Tips for Serious Readers

"Offline reading isn't just about convenience—it's about control. You decide when, where, and how you consume information without algorithmic interruptions."
  • Pair offline mode with our built-in Night Reader theme for reduced eye strain during long sessions.
  • Use the Batch Save feature in Library view to download entire collections with one tap.
  • Enable Read Aloud for offline articles. Audio is processed locally and doesn't require streaming.
  • Export your entire offline library to EPUB or PDF for use in third-party e-readers like Kindle or Apple Books.
