Legal & Compliance
Last updated: January 1, 2025 | Version 3.2.1
1. Introduction
Welcome to .git. These legal documents govern your use of our platform, APIs, and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By accessing or using .git, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these terms, our Privacy Policy, and all applicable laws and regulations.
If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have the authority to bind that entity to these terms. We reserve the right to update these documents at any time. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-platform notification at least 30 days before they take effect.
2. Terms of Service
2.1 Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years of age or have parental/guardian consent to use our Service. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities under your account.
2.2 Service Modifications
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Service at any time without prior notice. We will make commercially reasonable efforts to notify you of significant changes. We are not liable for any temporary or permanent unavailability.
2.3 Support & SLA
Support response times and uptime guarantees vary by plan. Free tiers receive community support. Pro plans include priority email/chat support. Enterprise plans include dedicated support with contractual SLAs. SLA credits are issued automatically for documented downtime exceeding committed thresholds.
Note: Scheduled maintenance windows do not count against uptime SLAs. We typically schedule maintenance during low-traffic periods and announce them at least 72 hours in advance.
3. Accounts & Authentication
Each account is licensed to a single individual or organization. Account sharing, credential resale, or unauthorized API key distribution is strictly prohibited. You must immediately notify us of any unauthorized access at security@.git.dev.
We support OAuth 2.0, SAML 2.0, and SSH key authentication. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is strongly recommended and mandatory for Enterprise accounts with admin privileges.
4. Acceptable Use & Restrictions
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Violate any applicable local, state, national, or international law.
- Host, distribute, or facilitate illegal content, malware, or phishing infrastructure.
- Engage in cryptocurrency mining, botnet operations, or DDoS attacks.
- Scrape, crawl, or extract data from .git or other users' repositories without explicit permission.
- Circumvent rate limits, authentication mechanisms, or billing restrictions.
- Impersonate any person, entity, or service.
We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate these guidelines or exhibit suspicious activity. Repeated violations may result in permanent termination.
5. Intellectual Property
5.1 Our IP: The .git platform, including all source code, documentation, branding, APIs, and design elements, is owned by .git Inc. and protected by copyright, trademark, and patent laws. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service solely for its intended purpose.
5.2 Your IP: You retain all rights to your code, repositories, and content. Using our Service does not grant us any ownership rights beyond what is necessary to host, process, and deliver the Service. We may anonymize aggregated usage metrics for product improvement.
5.3 Trademarks: The .git name, logo, and related marks are registered trademarks. Unauthorized use in domain names, social media handles, or commercial products is prohibited.
6. Payments & Refunds
Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually in advance. Prices are listed in USD and exclude applicable taxes. We process payments securely via Stripe and/or PayPal.
| Plan | Billing Cycle | Refund Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | Monthly / Free | N/A |
| Pro | Monthly / Annual | 7-day refund window for first payment only |
| Enterprise | Custom | Per contractual agreement |
After the initial 7-day window, refunds are not issued for prorated periods. You may downgrade or cancel at any time from your dashboard, and access continues until the end of the billing cycle.
7. Privacy Policy
7.1 Data Collection: We collect data necessary to operate the Service, including account details, repository metadata, deployment logs, usage analytics, and payment information. We do not track your browsing activity across third-party websites.
7.2 Data Sharing: We do not sell user data. Information may be shared with trusted service providers (hosting, analytics, payment processing) under strict confidentiality agreements. We may disclose data if required by law or to protect our rights.
7.3 User Rights: Under GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable privacy laws, you may request access, correction, export, or deletion of your personal data. Submit requests via privacy@.git.dev or through your account settings.
8. Data Processing & Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including TLS 1.3 encryption in transit, AES-256 encryption at rest, regular penetration testing, and SOC 2 Type II compliance. Our infrastructure is hosted across multiple geographically distributed data centers.
For Enterprise customers, we offer Data Processing Addendums (DPAs), VPC peering, on-premises deployments, and custom retention policies. Contact sales@.git.dev for details.
In the event of a confirmed data breach affecting personal information, we will notify affected users within 72 hours as required by applicable regulations.
10. DMCA & Copyright
.git respects intellectual property rights and complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). If you believe your copyrighted work has been infringed, submit a notification to our Copyright Agent at:

Include your contact information, a description of the work, the infringing URL, and a statement of good faith. False DMCA claims may result in account suspension.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, .git and its affiliates shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, data loss, or business interruption, even if advised of the possibility.
Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising from these terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. These limitations apply to the fullest extent allowed by applicable law.
12. Termination
You may terminate your account at any time via the dashboard or by contacting support. Upon termination, we will retain your data for 30 days before permanent deletion, unless required by law to retain longer.
We may suspend or terminate accounts for violations of these terms, non-payment, or prolonged inactivity (Free plans). You will receive notice where feasible, except in cases of suspected fraud or security threats.
13. Governing Law & Disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, excluding conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved through binding individual arbitration in San Francisco, CA, administered by JAMS under its Streamlined Arbitration Rules. Class actions and jury trials are waived.
This arbitration exception does not apply to claims filed in small claims court or actions to enforce intellectual property rights.
