End of Engineering (EOE) Standards
1. EOE Overview & Purpose
The End of Engineering (EOE) milestone marks the formal transition from design development to full-scale manufacturing. At MetalCore, EOE ensures that all engineering artifacts, material specifications, process parameters, and quality standards are validated, version-controlled, and ready for production release.
Once EOE is achieved, the design is frozen. Any subsequent modifications must follow the formal Engineering Change Notice (ECN) workflow to maintain traceability and compliance.
2. EOE Documentation Checklist
All items below must be reviewed, approved, and archived in the PLM system before EOE sign-off. Use the checkboxes to track completion status.
| ✓ | Document / Artifact | Owner | Required Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3D CAD Models (Native & STEP) | Design Eng. | STEP 214 / JT | |
| 2D GD&T Drawings | Design Eng. | PDF-A / DXF | |
| Bill of Materials (BOM) | Product Eng. | Excel / ERP Export | |
| Material Certifications | Supply Chain | Mill Certs / MTRs | |
| Process Flow & PFMEA | Manufacturing Eng. | PDF / Minitab | |
| Control Plan & Inspection Specs | Quality Eng. | PDF / CMM Program | |
| First Article Report (FAI) | Quality Eng. | AS9102 / ISO Format | |
| Tooling & Fixture Specs | Tooling Eng. | 2D/3D Drawings |
3. Quality & Compliance Standards
All EOE releases must align with the following regulatory and industry frameworks applicable to the product family:
- ISO 9001:2015 – Quality Management Systems
- AS9100D – Aerospace Quality Management (where applicable)
- IATF 16949 – Automotive Production & Part Quality
- ISO 13485 – Medical Devices (where applicable)
- GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2018) – Dimensioning & Tolerancing Standards
Revision control must follow the A/B/C or 01/02/03 convention. Minor documentation updates that do not affect geometry or process parameters shall be tracked under Document Change Notices (DCN), not ECNs.
4. Production Handoff Protocol
- Pre-EOE Review Meeting – Cross-functional alignment between Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain.
- Digital Archive Upload – All approved documents uploaded to PLM with metadata tagging (part number, revision, effective date).
- Pilot Run Validation – Minimum 50-piece trial run with in-process and final inspection data collection.
- Capability Analysis – Cp/Cpk ≥ 1.33 for critical dimensions; ≥ 1.67 for safety-critical features.
- EOE Sign-Off – Electronic signatures from Engineering Manager, Quality Manager, and Production Supervisor.
- System Release – Part status updated to "Released for Production" in ERP/PLM. BOM and routing activated.
