Critical steps to stabilize your pet while seeking professional care.

🩹 Bleeding & Wounds

  • Apply firm, direct pressure with a clean cloth for 5-10 minutes
  • Do NOT use tourniquets unless arterial bleeding is severe
  • Keep the wound elevated if possible

If the wound is deep or won't stop bleeding after 10 minutes, pack gently with sterile gauze and seek emergency care immediately. Avoid hydrogen peroxide or alcohol.

🤢 Poisoning Ingestion

  • Note the substance, amount, and time ingested
  • Bring packaging/container to the vet
  • Call Pet Poison Helpline: 1-855-764-7661

Never induce vomiting unless instructed by a vet. Some substances cause more damage coming back up. Keep your pet calm and restrict movement.

⚠️ Critical Red Flags

  • Difficulty breathing, blue/grey gums
  • Uncontrolled bleeding or collapse
  • Seizures lasting > 2 minutes
  • Suspected heatstroke or hypothermia

Use a rigid board or flat surface for spinal injuries. Keep the airway clear. Cover with a light blanket. Keep the vehicle well-ventilated and avoid loud noises.
