Our Correction Process
Once an error is reported or identified internally, we follow a structured process:
- Verification: Our editors investigate the claim to confirm the error.
- Assessment: We determine the severity and impact of the error.
- Correction: The article is updated, and a correction notice is added.
- Notification: If the error significantly impacts the story, we may notify subscribers or update social media links.
Types of Corrections
We categorize corrections based on their significance:
- Clarification: For minor additions of context or nuance that do not change the core facts. These are noted at the bottom of the article.
- Correction: For factual errors, misquotes, or missing information. These are clearly labeled and appear both within the text and in a dedicated corrections section.
- Pull or Rewrite: In rare cases where an article contains major inaccuracies, we may pull the article, rewrite it, and republish with a full explanation.
Public Record of Corrections
Transparency is vital. All substantive corrections are logged publicly:
- Corrections are visible at the bottom of the corrected article.
- Major corrections are listed in our weekly Corrections Archive.
- We do not silently edit articles; all changes are tracked and disclosed.
