Parental Consent & Privacy Notice
Last Updated: December 20, 2024
At The Daily Pulse, we are committed to protecting the privacy and safety of all our users, especially children. This page explains our practices regarding the collection of personal information from users under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction), and outlines the process for obtaining, managing, and withdrawing parental or guardian consent.
1. Why We Need Your Consent
Compliance with laws such as the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requires us to obtain explicit parental permission before collecting, using, or sharing personal information from minors. This ensures that:
- Parents are fully informed about what data is collected and why.
- Children can safely access age-appropriate news, educational content, and interactive features.
- You retain the right to review, modify, or delete your child’s information at any time.
2. Information We May Collect from Minors
If consent is provided, we may collect the following information to personalize and improve the experience:
- Account Details: Username, email address (parent-controlled), and preferred reading categories.
- Usage Data: Articles viewed, time spent reading, and feature interactions (anonymized where possible).
- Device & Technical Info: IP address, browser type, and device identifiers for security and performance optimization.
- Communications: Messages or feedback submitted through our platform.
We never sell, rent, or trade children’s personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
3. How We Verify Parental Identity
To ensure consent is given by an actual parent or legal guardian, we use one or more of the following verification methods:
- Completion of a short, age-verification questionnaire with privacy-related questions.
- Submission of a government-issued ID or notarized consent form (securely encrypted and deleted after verification).
- Third-party age verification services that do not store personal data on our servers.
- Unlinkable payment transaction (e.g., credit card or digital wallet authorization).
4. Your Rights & How to Manage Consent
Parents and guardians have the right to:
- Review all personal information we hold about their child.
- Modify or Delete any data at any time without penalty.
- Withdraw Consent entirely, which will result in the deletion of the child’s account and associated data.
- Opt-Out of non-essential data collection (e.g., analytics, personalized recommendations).
