Why We Preserve Computing Hardware

The early web didn't emerge in a vacuum. It was born on specific silicon, constrained by specific architectures, and shaped by the limitations and possibilities of 8-bit, 16-bit, and early 32-bit computing. By preserving the machines that ran the first browsers, mail clients, and bulletin board systems, we preserve the physical context of digital culture. Our archive includes ROM dumps, BIOS images, peripheral documentation, and hardware schematics, all verified through bit-for-bit checksums and stored in redundant offline vaults.
