Transparency, Equity & Access

We believe knowledge must be accessible to all, regardless of ability, language, or background. We also welcome criticism as the driving force behind our continuous improvement.

Our Core Commitment

Aevum Encyclopedia strives to be the most inclusive knowledge platform in existence. We recognize that traditional encyclopedias have historically excluded marginalized voices and created barriers for users with disabilities. This page outlines our response to past criticisms and our ongoing mission to build a truly accessible future for human knowledge.

Accessibility Standards

We adhere to WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards across all platforms. Our engineering team works closely with disability advocates to ensure our platform is usable by everyone.

Addressing Criticism

As a global platform, we receive feedback regarding content neutrality, algorithmic bias, and operational transparency. We address these concerns head-on.

Area of Criticism Aevum's Response & Action
Perceived Western Bias Early versions of our platform were noted to have fewer articles on African and Southeast Asian history compared to European topics. We launched the Global South Initiative, hiring local experts in 40+ regions to curate and write content. We have increased articles on non-Western topics by 300% since 2023.
AI Hallucinations Some users reported instances where our AI summary feature generated inaccurate simplifications of complex scientific papers. We have implemented a "Human-in-the-Loop" verification layer for all AI summaries. Users can now toggle "Verified Only" mode, which restricts AI to content with explicit citation backing.
Monetization & Privacy Concerns were raised regarding how user data is used to support our free tier. Aevum is a non-profit entity. We do not sell user data. Our free tier is supported by institutional grants and a premium "Pro" tier for researchers, which offers advanced API access and offline reading.
Edit Wars & Vandalism Like other open platforms, we face challenges with coordinated bad-faith editing. We utilize decentralized moderation powered by community stewards and AI detection. We publish a monthly transparency report detailing removed vandalism and banned accounts.
