1. Policy Overview

Aevum Encyclopedia recognizes that technological advancement must be balanced with environmental stewardship. Our Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policy establishes a framework for managing the entire lifecycle of hardware, packaging, and ancillary materials associated with our operations.

As a knowledge platform that supports global education and research, we are committed to minimizing our ecological footprint through proactive waste management, circular economy principles, and full compliance with international environmental standards.

Our EPR Pledge

We accept responsibility for the collection, treatment, recovery, and environmentally sound disposal of products we place on the market, ensuring that end-of-life management does not burden municipalities or ecosystems.

2. Scope & Applicability

This EPR policy applies to all physical assets and materials associated with Aevum Encyclopedia, including but not limited to:

  • Consumer & Enterprise Hardware: Workstations, servers, networking equipment, and diagnostic tools distributed by Aevum or its certified partners.
  • Electronic Accessories: Peripherals, power supplies, cables, and battery-operated devices.
  • Shipping & Packaging: Corrugated materials, protective foam, polymailers, and labeling materials used in product distribution.
  • Operational Infrastructure: Data center equipment, cooling systems, and facility electronics managed under our operational control.

This policy does not cover third-party products merely resold without modification, nor does it apply to digital-only services, which are governed separately under our Digital Carbon Footprint Policy.

3. Regulatory Compliance

Aevum Encyclopedia maintains strict adherence to regional and international EPR legislation. Our compliance framework is continuously updated to reflect evolving regulatory landscapes.

Regulation Region Focus Area Status
EU WEEE Directive (2012/19/EU) European Union Electronic waste collection & recycling Fully Compliant
EU Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation European Union Recyclable packaging & producer fees Fully Compliant
R2v3 & e-Stewards Standards Global Responsible electronics recycling Certified
US State EPR Laws (CA, NY, MN, etc.) United States State-specific take-back & reporting Compliant
EPEAT Registration Global Green purchasing & lifecycle criteria Gold Registered

All compliance data is audited annually by independent third parties and filed with relevant producer responsibility organizations (PROs) and governmental bodies.

4. Take-Back & Recycling Process

Aevum operates a closed-loop recovery program designed to maximize material recovery and minimize landfill disposal.

4.1 Collection & Logistics

  • Customers can request prepaid return labels through our EPR Customer Portal.
  • Regional collection hubs ensure environmentally safe transport using ISO 14001-certified logistics partners.
  • Data sanitization is performed prior to recycling using NIST SP 800-88 guidelines for all storage devices.

4.2 Processing & Recovery

Returned materials are sorted and processed through our certified partners:

  • Refurbishment: Functional hardware undergoes testing, component replacement, and redistribution to educational institutions via our Tech4Good Initiative.
  • Component Recovery: Valuable metals, plastics, and circuitry are extracted using automated disassembly and hydrometallurgical processes.
  • Hazardous Material Handling: Batteries, fluorescent lamps, and chemical components are isolated and processed in permitted facilities.
  • Landfill Diversion: We maintain a minimum 94% landfill diversion rate across all operational regions.

5. Transparency & Reporting

Accountability is central to our EPR strategy. We publish annual sustainability reports detailing collection volumes, recovery rates, carbon offset metrics, and compliance filings.

Key Performance Indicators (2024)

  • Materials Collected: 1,240 metric tons
  • Recycled/Recovered: 1,186 metric tons (95.6%)
  • Refurbished Units Redeployed: 8,400+ devices
  • PRO Fee Compliance Rate: 100%
  • Audit Findings: 0 non-conformities

Detailed methodology, third-party verification statements, and regional breakdowns are available in our Annual Sustainability Report. We also participate in the CDP Supply Chain program and GRESB assessment frameworks.
