Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply if I'm not affiliated with a university?
Yes. Independent researchers are eligible for the Emerging Scholars and Multilingual Expansion tracks. You'll need to provide a portfolio of prior work, a detailed methodology, and at least two professional references.
What are the reporting requirements during the grant period?
Awardees submit quarterly progress reports and a final open-access publication. Milestone-based disbursements apply for grants exceeding $25,000. Failure to meet deliverables may result in funding suspension.
Does Aevum claim ownership of published research?
No. All research remains under the author's chosen open license (typically CC BY or CC0). Aevum only requires hosting rights and integration permission for the knowledge graph. Intellectual property stays with the creator.
Can funds be used for equipment or travel?
Core research grants allow up to 30% for direct research costs. Equipment, fieldwork, and conference travel are permitted with prior budget approval. Administrative overhead is capped at 15%.
