Overview & Purpose

Aevum Encyclopedia is committed to delivering authoritative, accessible, and rigorously verified knowledge. These editorial guidelines establish the standards all contributors, reviewers, and automated systems must follow to maintain consistency, academic integrity, and global usability.

Scope These guidelines apply to all articles, revisions, multimedia embeds, and metadata submitted to the platform, across all 140+ supported languages.

Core Principles

  • Accuracy First: Every factual claim must be traceable to a reliable, verifiable source.
  • Encyclopedic Tone: Content should be formal, objective, and accessible to educated general audiences.
  • Original Research Prohibited: Do not publish unpublished theories, personal interpretations, or unsourced analysis.
  • Living Documentation: Articles are continuously updated. Stale information must be flagged and revised promptly.

Verifiability & Sourcing

Reliable sourcing is the foundation of trust. All claims, especially controversial or specific data points, require inline citations.

Acceptable Sources

  • Peer-reviewed academic journals and conference proceedings
  • Reputable news organizations with editorial oversight
  • Government publications, official statistics, and institutional reports
  • Published books from recognized academic or trade publishers

Unreliable Sources Self-published materials, wikis (including Wikipedia), blogs, press releases, and anonymous social media posts are not acceptable as primary sources.

Citation Format

Use standardized citation templates. Inline references should follow [Author, Year] format, with full bibliographic data in the References section. Our AI parser will auto-format entries into APA, Chicago, or IEEE upon publication.

Neutrality & Tone

Articles must present all significant viewpoints fairly, without editorial bias. Controversial topics require proportional coverage of established perspectives, clearly attributed to their proponents.

  • Avoid loaded language, adjectives, or emotional phrasing.
  • Use neutral framing: "Critics argue..." instead of "Flawed theories suggest..."
  • Present minority viewpoints only when backed by notable, credible sources.

AI-Assisted Review

Aevum utilizes proprietary AI models to assist in the editorial workflow. AI handles:

  • Initial plagiarism and copyright screening
  • Grammar, syntax, and consistency checks
  • Source validity cross-referencing against academic databases
  • Structural alignment with template standards

Content Formatting

Article Structure

  1. Introduction: Concise overview (1–3 paragraphs) defining scope and significance.
  2. Body Sections: Logical progression with clear H2/H3 headings.
  3. Infobox/Sidebar: Structured data table for quick reference (auto-generated where possible).
  4. References: Complete bibliographic entries.
  5. See Also / External Links: Relevant cross-references and approved external resources.

Media Guidelines

Images, diagrams, and videos must be original, properly licensed (CC BY-SA 4.0 or Public Domain), and accompanied by descriptive alt text. Captions should be factual and non-promotional.

Prohibited Content

The following will result in immediate rejection and may lead to contributor suspension:

  • Defamatory, libelous, or privacy-violating material
  • Hate speech, discrimination, or harassment
  • Unverified conspiracy theories or pseudoscience presented as fact
  • Self-promotion, advertising, or affiliate marketing
  • Copyrighted material without explicit licensing or fair-use justification
  • Vandalism, deliberate misinformation, or sockpuppet editing

Multilingual Standards

Aevum serves a global audience. Translated articles must maintain the same accuracy, tone, and structural integrity as the original. Direct translation without cultural or contextual adaptation is discouraged. Localized contributors are responsible for verifying terminology and regional relevance.
