Introduction & Mission
Aevum News is committed to delivering journalism that is accurate, fair, independent, and accountable. This Editorial Policy establishes the standards by which every member of our editorial staff operates, and it applies to all content published across our platforms β including articles, investigative reports, opinion pieces, multimedia content, and social media.
Our mission is to inform the public with clarity and integrity. We believe that a well-informed citizenry is the cornerstone of democracy, and we hold ourselves to the highest possible standards in fulfilling that responsibility.
Core Commitment: Every story we publish must pass the test of accuracy, fairness, and transparency. If a story cannot meet these standards, it will not be published β regardless of how compelling or newsworthy it may appear.
Fundamental Principles
Truth First
We pursue and report the truth with rigor. Facts are our primary obligation, and speculation is never presented as fact.
Independence
Our editorial decisions are free from external influence β whether from advertisers, political actors, or corporate interests.
Fairness
We present relevant perspectives and context, ensuring that coverage is balanced and that subjects have the opportunity to respond.
Accountability
We own our mistakes, correct them promptly and prominently, and explain our process to our audience openly.
Editorial Independence
Aevum News maintains an impenetrable wall between its editorial operations and its commercial, political, and external interests. This principle is non-negotiable and forms the bedrock of our credibility.
Separation of Editorial and Commercial Operations
- The editorial team reports exclusively to the Editor-in-Chief, who has final authority over all content decisions.
- Advertising sales, sponsorship, and business development staff have no influence, review rights, or veto power over editorial content.
- Business staff may not be present during editorial meetings where content is discussed, planned, or criticized.
- Clear, physical, and digital separation exists between editorial and advertising departments.
Protection from External Pressure
- No advertiser, sponsor, political figure, corporate executive, or external party may influence story selection, framing, tone, or publication decisions.
- Staff who report pressure from external parties to alter or suppress coverage must escalate the matter to the Editor-in-Chief immediately.
- Any attempt to interfere with editorial independence will be documented and reported to the Editorial Board.
Zero Tolerance: Any staff member found to have allowed external influence over editorial content β whether through direct coercion or by failing to report such attempts β will face immediate disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
Accuracy & Verification
Accuracy is not aspirational β it is mandatory. Every fact, figure, quote, and claim in any Aevum News publication must be verified through multiple, independent sources before publication.
The Three-Source Rule
For any significant factual claim β particularly those involving allegations, data, or contested events β a minimum of three independent, verifiable sources must confirm the information. Where three sources are unavailable, the story must clearly disclose what has and has not been independently confirmed.
Verification Standards
- Primary Documentation: Wherever possible, rely on original documents, official records, raw data, or direct observation rather than secondary reports.
- Expert Consultation: Complex topics must be reviewed by subject-matter experts who are transparently credited.
- Subject Comment: Anyone named in a story, or whose actions or statements are central to the narrative, must be given a meaningful opportunity to respond before publication.
- Fact-Checking Layer: All published content passes through a dedicated fact-checking review before going live.
- Image & Video Verification: All visual media must be authenticated through metadata analysis, reverse-image searches, and source verification.
Transparency in Limitations: When verification is impossible for any reason, Aevum News will clearly state what could not be verified and why. Partial verification is always preferable to none β but it must be framed honestly.
Attribution Standards
- All quotes must be attributed to named individuals whenever possible. Anonymous attribution requires Editor-in-Chief approval.
- Statistics and data must cite the original source, including the name of the institution, study, or report.
- Interpretations, analysis, and opinions must be clearly labeled as such and separated from factual reporting.
Sourcing & Attribution
Our readers trust us to tell them where information comes from. We will never obscure the provenance of our reporting, and we will always be transparent about the limitations of our sources.
Anonymous Sources
Anonymous sources are used only when absolutely necessary and never as a substitute for legitimate journalistic effort to identify a source. The use of anonymous sources is subject to the following strict conditions:
- The source must have firsthand knowledge of the information they provide.
- The information cannot be obtained through any other means (public records, named sources, documentation, etc.).
- The use of anonymity must be approved in advance by the Editor-in-Chief or Deputy Editor.
- The reason for anonymity must be clearly explained to the reader.
- Where possible, the source's role, affiliation, and motivation for speaking anonymously are disclosed.
Sponsored & Partner Content
- Any content produced with or for a commercial partner must be clearly and prominently labeled as "Sponsored Content" or "Partner Content" β never disguised as editorial reporting.
- Sponsored content must be produced by a dedicated team separate from editorial staff.
- Editorial staff may not contribute to sponsored content in a way that blurs the line between independent reporting and paid material.
Conflict of Interest
Aevum News staff must avoid situations where personal interests could compromise, or appear to compromise, their journalistic integrity. Transparency is the primary remedy for potential conflicts.
Financial Conflicts
- Staff may not hold financial interests in any company, organization, or entity they are reporting on.
- Any stock holdings, investments, or financial arrangements that could be perceived as creating a conflict must be disclosed to the Editor-in-Chief annually and updated in real time.
- Staff must recuse themselves from coverage of any company or individual in which they or their immediate family have a financial interest.
Personal Relationships
- Reporting on close personal friends, family members, or romantic partners is prohibited unless explicitly approved by the Editor-in-Chief with full disclosure.
- Staff must disclose any personal relationships with individuals who may become subjects of reporting.
Outside Activities
- Staff may not engage in paid speaking, consulting, or writing that could conflict with their role at Aevum News without prior written approval.
- Staff political activity, including donations and public endorsements, must comply with applicable laws and be disclosed per company policy.
- Staff must not participate in advocacy organizations whose activities could undermine the perception of Aevum News's editorial independence.
Corrections Policy
Mistakes are inevitable in journalism. What defines our credibility is not whether we make errors, but how promptly, openly, and responsibly we correct them.
Our Correction Process
Identification
Errors may be identified by readers, fact-checkers, editorial review, or self-correction by the original author.
Assessment
The Editor-in-Chief or designated corrections editor evaluates the severity β factual, contextual, or ethical β and determines the appropriate response.
Action
Minor errors are corrected discreetly. Significant errors are corrected prominently, often with a standalone notice linked from the original article.
Publication
All corrections are published transparently, with the original erroneous text preserved, the correction clearly marked, and the date/time of correction recorded.
Prevention
Recurring errors trigger a review of editorial processes, additional training, or policy updates to prevent recurrence.
Correction Notices
Corrections will be issued in the following categories:
- Minor Correction: Typographical, grammatical, or non-substantive factual errors β corrected within the article text with a brief note.
- Substantive Correction: Errors in data, names, dates, or context that could affect reader understanding β corrected with a prominent notice at the top and bottom of the article.
- Editorial Correction: Errors involving misrepresentation, context, or framing β corrected with a full explanation published in our corrections log and linked from the original article.
- Retraction: Content that cannot be brought into compliance with this policy is retracted in full, with a public explanation of the reasons.
Our Promise: All corrections are logged publicly in a permanent Corrections Archive accessible from the Aevum News homepage. No correction is buried, hidden, or quietly removed from the record.
Freedom of Expression vs. Harm
Aevum News is committed to robust freedom of expression and the open exchange of ideas. However, this commitment is balanced against our responsibility not to cause unnecessary harm.
Principles of Expression
- We report on diverse viewpoints, even those we disagree with, provided they are presented with accuracy and context.
- We do not censor content based on political pressure, popular opinion, or fear of controversy.
- Opinion and editorial content is clearly labeled and distinguished from news reporting.
Limitations
Expression is not absolute. Aevum News will not publish or promote content that:
- Incites violence or promotes hatred against individuals or groups based on race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin.
- Spreads demonstrably false claims with the intent to cause harm (e.g., false medical advice during a public health crisis).
- Violates the privacy or dignity of individuals, particularly victims of trauma, minors, or non-public figures.
- Constitutes harassment, defamation, or the unauthorized sharing of private information.
Sensitive Reporting: When covering violence, trauma, or tragedies, our reporters are trained to minimize harm to victims and communities. Graphic content is previewed, and the rationale for inclusion is always explained.
Privacy & Dignity
Respect for the privacy and dignity of individuals β whether public figures or private citizens β is paramount in our reporting.
Private Individuals
- Private individuals who are not central to a matter of public interest should not be named or identified without their informed consent.
- Children and minors are never identified in news reports without explicit parental or guardian consent, except in cases of grave public interest where legal counsel has approved disclosure.
- Victims of sexual violence, crimes of a sensitive nature, orι倧 traumatic events are protected by strict anonymity protocols.
Public Figures
- Public figures are subject to a higher standard of scrutiny, but this does not negate their right to privacy in matters unrelated to their public role.
- Personal information of public figures (addresses, family details, private communications) will not be published unless it is demonstrably in the public interest.
Digital Privacy
- Staff must not use unauthorized surveillance, hacking, or deception to obtain information.
- Information obtained through unauthorized means will not be published.
- Social media content is used ethically β reposting private posts without permission is prohibited.
Advertising & Sponsorship
Aevum News generates revenue through advertising and sponsorships, but this revenue never influences editorial content. The separation between commercial and editorial operations is absolute.
Advertising Standards
- All advertisements are clearly labeled as "Advertisement" or "Sponsored."
