1 Introduction
At FamilyNest, the safety, privacy, and well-being of children and families is our highest priority. This Parental Consent Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information from users under the age of 18, and the role parents and guardians play in our platform.
We are committed to full compliance with applicable child privacy laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) provisions for children, and other relevant jurisdiction-specific requirements.
๐ Our Commitment
FamilyNest was founded on the belief that every child deserves a safe, nurturing digital environment. We design all our family-focused services with age-appropriate safeguards and always require verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your jurisdiction).
2 Scope & Coverage
This policy applies to all FamilyNest services and platforms that may be accessed by or collect information from minors, including:
FamilyNest Website
All web-based services, tools, and resources available at familynest.com.
Mobile Applications
iOS and Android apps including Pregnancy Tracker, Baby Care, and Kids' Activities.
Community Forums
Parent and family community spaces, discussion boards, and group chats.
Kids' Activity Portal
Age-specific creative and educational activity sections designed for children.
This policy does not apply to services exclusively designed for adults (18 and older) that do not involve the collection of children's personal information. For those services, our standard Privacy Policy applies.
3 Information We Collect from Children
We take a minimal, purposeful approach to data collection from minors. We only collect information that is directly necessary to provide our services, and we always do so with verifiable parental consent.
Information Collected with Parental Consent:
- Basic profile information: First name (or nickname), age, and grade level for age-appropriate content delivery
- Activity participation data: Records of completed activities, creative projects, and educational milestones
- Parent-child shared content: Photos, messages, and memories shared within private family accounts
- Communication records: Any messages sent through our community features when parent-supervised
- Usage analytics: Aggregated, non-personal data about how children interact with our educational content
๐ What We Never Collect from Children
We never collect social security numbers, full addresses, financial information, precise geolocation data, or any sensitive personal data from children โ with or without parental consent. Our platform is designed to minimize data collection to the absolute essentials.
Information Collected from Parents/Guardians:
- Email address and contact information for consent verification and communication
- Parent/guardian name and relationship to the child
- Consent preferences and communication preferences
- Account management data for family profiles
4 How Parental Consent Works
FamilyNest uses a Verifiable Parental Consent (VPC) process before any personal information is collected from a child under 13. Our consent process is designed to be clear, transparent, and secure.
The Consent Process:
- 1 Discovery: When a child attempts to access age-restricted features, a parental consent prompt appears explaining exactly what information will be collected and why.
- 2 Verification: Parents verify their identity and relationship to the child through our secure verification process (email confirmation, credit card token, or other VPC-compliant method).
- 3 Informed Consent: Parents review our consent form, which clearly describes what data will be collected, how it will be used, and the rights they retain.
- 4 Confirmation: Upon consent, parents receive a confirmation email summarizing their permissions and providing easy access to manage or revoke consent at any time.
๐ง Consent Documentation
All consent records are securely maintained and parents receive a digital copy of the consent form. You can access, review, or download your consent records at any time through your FamilyNest account dashboard under Settings โ Privacy & Consent.
5 Your Rights as a Parent
We believe parents should have full control and transparency over their children's data and platform interactions. Under this policy, you have the following rights:
- Right to Review: You can review the personal information we have collected from your child at any time, free of charge.
- Right to Delete: You can request the deletion of all or specific portions of your child's personal information from our systems.
- Right to Consent Selectively: You can choose which specific services or features your child can access, rather than granting blanket consent.
- Right to Revocation: You can revoke consent at any time, after which we will cease collecting and delete existing personal information from your child (within 30 days).
- Right to Condition: You can set specific conditions on how your child's information is used (e.g., no sharing with third-party educational partners).
- Right to be Informed: You will receive notification of any material changes to how we handle children's data.
