1. Overview

At Health, we recognize that diversity strengthens our community, enhances patient outcomes, and drives innovation. This policy establishes our unwavering commitment to providing an environment free from discrimination, harassment, and bias across all operations, services, and interactions.

This policy applies to all patients, employees, contractors, vendors, volunteers, students, visitors, and third parties who interact with Health facilities, digital platforms, and community programs.

2. Policy Statement

Health prohibits discrimination on the basis of any legally protected characteristic. We ensure equal opportunity in healthcare delivery, employment, training, promotions, and access to facilities. Decisions regarding patient care, staffing, and service provision are based solely on merit, clinical need, and professional standards.

Core Principle Every individual has the right to receive respectful, equitable, and culturally competent care regardless of personal background, identity, or circumstance.

3. Protected Characteristics

Discrimination is prohibited based on, but not limited to:

4. Accessibility & Reasonable Accommodations

We are committed to removing barriers to access. Patients and staff may request reasonable accommodations for disabilities, religious practices, language needs, or cultural requirements.

  • Physical Accessibility: Wheelchair-accessible facilities, exam rooms, and transportation
  • Communication: Certified interpreters, ASL services, large-print/Braille materials, and plain-language documentation
  • Cultural Competence: Gender-affirming care, religious observance support, and culturally appropriate treatment options
  • Digital Access: WCAG 2.1 AA compliant websites and patient portals

Accommodation requests should be submitted at least 48 hours in advance when possible, though urgent requests are always honored.

5. Reporting Discrimination or Harassment

Health maintains a zero-tolerance policy. Any individual who experiences, witnesses, or suspects discrimination or harassment may report it through multiple confidential channels:

  2. Anonymous Hotline: Call 1-800-HEALTH-ETHICS (24/7)
  3. Online Portal: Submit a secure report via our compliance dashboard
  4. Ombudsman Office: Contact our independent Office of Equity & Inclusion

All reports are investigated promptly, thoroughly, and impartially by trained compliance officers. Investigations typically conclude within 30 business days, with status updates provided to the complainant.

6. Non-Retaliation

Retaliation against any individual who reports discrimination, participates in an investigation, or advocates for equitable treatment is strictly prohibited. Violations of this provision will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination or contract cancellation.

7. Enforcement & Compliance

Health's Office of Equity & Inclusion oversees policy implementation. Annual training is mandatory for all staff. Third-party partners must certify compliance before engaging with our organization. Policy violations may result in:

  • Mandatory sensitivity training
  • Performance improvement plans
  • Suspension or revocation of clinical privileges
  • Termination of employment or partnership
  • Legal referral when warranted
