π Why We Use Google Analytics
At InkWell, we believe in data-driven improvement. We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how readers interact with our platform, which topics resonate most, and where we can optimize the user experience. All data is collected in an aggregated, anonymized manner and is never used to personally identify individual readers.
We prioritize your privacy above all else. Our implementation follows strict data minimization principles, and we regularly audit our tracking practices to ensure full compliance with global privacy regulations.
π What We Collect
Our analytics setup is intentionally lightweight. We only track essential metrics that help us improve content delivery:
- Page Views & Sessions: Which articles are read, average time on page, and navigation flow.
- Engagement Events: Clicks on internal links, newsletter sign-ups, and scroll depth.
- Technical Performance: Page load speed, errors, and device/browser compatibility.
- Geographic Aggregates: Country/region level data (no IP addresses stored).
π« What We DON'T Collect
We never collect sensitive personal data, exact IP addresses, precise location data, or cross-site tracking identifiers. Third-party ad tracking is completely disabled.
π Data Retention
Analytics data is automatically deleted after 14 months. We do not retain individual user profiles or link analytics data to personal accounts.
βοΈ How We Implement Tracking
We use the standard Google Analytics 4 measurement protocol with enhanced privacy settings. All tracking is deferred until explicit consent is granted via our cookie banner.
gtag('config', 'G-XXXXXXXXXX', {
'anonymize_ip': true,
'ad_storage': 'denied',
'analytics_storage': 'granted',
'region': 'eu',
'linker': { 'domains': ['inkwell.blog'] }
});
This configuration ensures IP addresses are anonymized before storage, ad personalization is disabled, and data is routed through EU servers for faster, compliant processing.
π‘οΈ Compliance & Legal Standards
InkWell maintains full compliance with international data protection frameworks. We've implemented technical and organizational measures to safeguard your information.
We have signed a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) with Google, designating them as a subprocessor under our control. You retain full rights to access, rectify, delete, or restrict processing of any data associated with your interactions on our platform.
π« How to Opt-Out
You have the right to decline analytics tracking at any time. Here's how:
- Browser Settings: Use the toggle in our cookie consent banner to disable analytics.
- Google Opt-Out: Install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Device Privacy: Enable "Limit Ad Tracking" or "Private Browsing" modes in your browser settings.
- Contact Us: Email privacy@inkwell.blog with your request and we'll manually suppress any associated records.
