Frequently Asked Questions

Is MBSR religious or spiritual?
No. MBSR is a secular, evidence-based clinical program developed in a medical context. While mindfulness has roots in contemplative traditions, the program is strictly focused on psychological and physiological benefits without any religious doctrine or practice.
How much time do I need to commit weekly?
Expect ~2.5 hours for the live session, plus 45 minutes of daily guided practice. The Week 6 silent retreat is a full day (approx. 6–7 hours). Consistency matters more than perfection—missing a day won't derail your progress.
What if I've never meditated before?
MBSR is specifically designed for beginners. No prior experience is required. Dr. Martinez and her team provide step-by-step instruction, gentle pacing, and accommodations for physical limitations or anxiety around stillness.
Can my employer reimburse this program?
Many companies cover MBSR through EAPs, wellness stipends, or HSA/FSA accounts. We provide official invoices, tax-exempt certificates where applicable, and employer verification letters upon request.
What if I miss a live session?
All sessions are recorded and available within 24 hours. You can also catch up with session summaries and targeted practice guides in the student portal. We recommend attending at least 6/8 sessions for optimal outcomes.
