Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about contributing to Aevum Encyclopedia.

Do I need a PhD or academic credentials to contribute? +

Not necessarily. While academic credentials help for higher-tier roles (especially Subject Expert), anyone with demonstrated knowledge and good research skills can contribute as an Author. What matters most is your ability to write clearly, cite reliable sources, and follow our editorial guidelines. We value expertise from all walks of life.

Is contributing to Aevum Encyclopedia paid? +

Contributing is currently volunteer-based. However, top contributors are eligible for our annual grant program, conference sponsorship, and publication opportunities. Many contributors find the experience valuable for their academic portfolios and professional development.

How long does the application process take? +

Typically, applications are reviewed within 5–7 business days. After approval, our onboarding process takes about 1–2 hours to complete, including a tour of the editor, reading the guidelines, and passing a short quiz on editorial standards.

Can I contribute in a language other than English? +

Absolutely! Aevum supports contributions in over 140 languages. We actively seek contributors for underrepresented languages and may offer expedited onboarding for those who volunteer to work in high-need language editions.

Who owns the articles I write? +

Articles on Aevum are published under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) license. This means your work is freely accessible to everyone, but you retain attribution. Other contributors can build on your articles, and your contributions remain part of your public portfolio on our platform.

What happens if my article is rejected? +

Rejections are educational, not punitive. You'll receive detailed feedback on what needs improvement — whether it's citations, neutrality, structure, or scope. Most articles pass review after 1–2 revisions. Our review team is happy to work with you through the process.

Can I propose a topic that doesn't exist yet? +

Yes! We welcome new article proposals. Use our topic request system to suggest articles. If a topic meets our notability criteria, it will be marked as "open" for any contributor to write, or we may assign it to someone with matching expertise.
