Content License & Usage Agreement
1. Scope & Acceptance
This License Agreement ("Agreement") governs your access to and use of Aevum Encyclopedia ("the Platform"), including all articles, datasets, knowledge graphs, multimedia assets, and AI-generated insights (collectively, "Content"). By accessing, browsing, downloading, or contributing to the Platform, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these terms.
If you are using the Platform on behalf of an institution, you warrant that you have the authority to bind that entity to this Agreement.
2. Intellectual Property & Copyright
Aevum Encyclopedia retains all proprietary rights to the Platform's architecture, proprietary AI models, interactive knowledge graphs, and curated editorial frameworks. Individual articles and open-access Content are licensed under a hybrid model designed to maximize academic freedom while protecting contributor rights.
2.1 Content Ownership
Contributors retain copyright to their original submissions but grant Aevum a perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide license to host, distribute, and adapt their work across all Platform editions. Aevum does not claim ownership over independently created user content.
2.2 Third-Party Materials
Certain Content incorporates licensed historical archives, academic journal excerpts, and multimedia. These materials are subject to their respective copyright holders' terms and are not covered by the general Platform license.
3. Permitted Uses
You are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Content under the following conditions:

4. Attribution Requirements
When citing, reproducing, or adapting Content for public or academic use, you must provide clear attribution using the following format:
"Adapted from [Article Title], Aevum Encyclopedia, [Access Date]. Licensed under Aevum Open Knowledge License v2.1. [URL]"
Machine-readable metadata (DOI, JSON-LD, or BibTeX) is available for all indexed articles via the Platform's developer API. Removal or alteration of embedded watermarks, contributor credits, or license notices is strictly prohibited.
5. AI, Data Scraping & Automated Access
Aevum Encyclopedia is designed to be AI-friendly, but automated consumption must respect system integrity and contributor rights.
- Permitted: Programmatic access via official REST/GraphQL APIs with valid API keys. Rate limits apply (see Developer Docs).
- Prohibited: Web scraping, bot-driven data harvesting, or circumvention of access controls without explicit partnership authorization.
- AI Training: Content may be used to train educational or research-focused AI models provided that: (a) the model is not used to replicate or compete directly with the Platform, and (b) output derived from Aevum Content includes appropriate source attribution.

6. Limitations & Warranties
Content on Aevum Encyclopedia is curated by subject-matter experts and verified through multi-layer peer review. However, knowledge evolves rapidly. We make no warranties regarding absolute completeness, timeliness, or fitness for a specific academic, medical, or legal purpose.
Aevum and its contributors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from reliance on Platform Content. Users are encouraged to cross-reference critical information with primary academic sources.
7. Commercial Licensing
Organizations seeking to integrate Aevum Content into commercial products, subscription services, or proprietary knowledge bases must obtain a Commercial Usage License. Terms include volume-based pricing, white-label options, and SLA guarantees. Inquire through our Enterprise portal or contact licensing@aevumencyclopedia.com.
8. Modifications & Termination
Aevum reserves the right to modify this Agreement at any time. Material changes will be notified via Platform banner, email, or in-app notice at least 30 days before enforcement. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of revised terms.
We may suspend or terminate access for violations of this Agreement, including but not limited to: unauthorized commercial distribution, systematic scraping, or misuse of API endpoints. Terminated accounts may request data export within 90 days of closure.
9. Governing Law & Contact
This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the appropriate state or federal courts located in Wilmington, Delaware.
