Eligibility & COPPA Compliance
1. Purpose & Scope
FamilyNest is committed to protecting the privacy and safety of all users, particularly children. This page outlines our eligibility requirements, our compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and how we handle data for users under the age of 13.
By accessing or using FamilyNest's platform, services, or community features, you acknowledge and agree to the guidelines outlined herein.
2. Eligibility Requirements
FamilyNest offers tiered access based on age to ensure a safe, age-appropriate environment for all families:
- Users Under 13: Access to FamilyNest requires verifiable parental consent. Children in this age group may only use educational content, guided activities, and moderated community spaces under direct parental supervision.
- Users Aged 13–17: May create accounts with parental acknowledgment. Certain features (e.g., direct messaging, public posting, premium subscriptions) require verified parental permission.
- Users Aged 18+: May access all features independently, including account management, billing, and full community participation.
⚠️ Note: We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without prior verifiable parental consent. If we learn that we have collected such information without consent, we will take immediate steps to delete it.
3. COPPA Compliance
FamilyNest strictly complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (16 CFR § 312). Our commitment includes:
- Verifiable Parental Consent: Before collecting, using, or disclosing personal information from a child under 13, we obtain consent through industry-accepted methods (e.g., verified credit card transaction, government ID verification, or certified digital consent forms).
- Clear Notice: Parents are informed of the types of personal information collected, how it will be used, and our policies on third-party disclosure before consent is requested.
- Parental Rights: Parents have the right to review their child's data, request deletion, refuse further collection, and revoke consent at any time.
- Safe Environments: We maintain robust content moderation, restricted messaging controls, and age-gated features to minimize privacy risks for minors.
