  3. Route FilingItinerary, group manifest, and expected check-in times are filed with local search & rescue (SAR) authorities and SummitX HQ.
  4. Safety BriefingMandatory 30-minute orientation covering terrain hazards, buddy system rules, signal codes, and evacuation assembly points.
  1. Immediate AssessmentGuide initiates STOP protocol: Secure scene, Treat injuries, Organize shelter, Plan next steps.
  2. Communication ChainLead guide contacts HQ via satellite. Secondary guide stays with injured party. Radio check-ins every 15 minutes.
  3. Group ManagementReroute healthy participants if safe. Deploy emergency shelter/water rations. Maintain morale and monitor for hypothermia/shock.
  4. DocumentationLog incident time, coordinates, weather, injuries, and actions taken. Photos/videography for insurance & SAR support.
  1. Wilderness First AidApply SAMC/NAWMT field treatment guidelines. Use certified medical kits (Level II trauma + altitude/water-specific).
  2. Telemedicine SupportConnect with SummitX contracted physicians via satellite video/audio for remote diagnosis & treatment guidance.
  3. Evacuation Decision MatrixGuide + HQ physician determine: carry out vs. fly out vs. hold. Factors: severity, terrain, weather, time to care.
  4. Handover to EMSPrepare medical summary, vitals log, and medication list. Accompany patient to hospital if required by policy.
  1. Early Warning MonitoringTrack NOAA/ECWMF models. Guides carry handheld weather radios and review forecasts at dawn/dusk.
  2. Trigger ThresholdsImmediate descent/shelter if: lightning <10mi, wind >45mph, flash flood risk high, avalanche danger >3, temp < -10°C with wind chill.
  3. Shelter ProtocolDeploy emergency bivvys. Move away from ridges, cliffs, dry washes, and dead trees. Group huddle for heat conservation.
  4. Post-Event AssessmentCheck for injuries, gear loss, and route damage. Notify HQ of status. Resume only when safe conditions verified.
