1. Intellectual Property Ownership

At That Is A Q, we believe clear ownership terms are the foundation of successful partnerships. Our IP ownership structure is designed to protect both your investment and our creative assets.

Client Ownership

Upon full payment of all agreed fees, clients receive full ownership rights to all custom deliverables created specifically for their project, including but not limited to:

  • Custom source code, architecture, and technical implementations
  • Original UI/UX designs, wireframes, and visual assets
  • Content strategy documents and project-specific research
  • Deployment configurations and environment setups
Note: Ownership transfers automatically upon final project payment. No additional IP transfer fees apply. We provide all source files, repositories, and access credentials at project handoff.

Agency Retained Rights

That Is A Q retains ownership of pre-existing frameworks, proprietary tools, internal libraries, and methodologies developed prior to or independent of your engagement. We grant you a perpetual, non-exclusive license to use these underlying components as part of your delivered product.

2. Licensing & Usage Rights

All deliverables are provided under a commercial use license that allows you to:

  1. Modify, adapt, and distribute the work for internal or commercial purposes
  2. Deploy across unlimited environments, servers, or platforms
  3. Transfer rights to affiliates, subsidiaries, or future owners
  4. Use trademarks and brand assets associated with the delivered work

Restrictions apply only to reselling our raw codebases or design systems as standalone products, or removing copyright notices from our proprietary tooling. If you require exclusive rights to our underlying frameworks, please discuss custom licensing terms during scoping.

3. Third-Party & Open Source Assets

Modern development relies on a robust ecosystem of open-source libraries, stock media, and commercial APIs. We are transparent about third-party dependencies and ensure compliance with their respective licenses.

  • Open Source: All MIT, Apache 2.0, or GPL-licensed packages are documented in a NOTICE.md file delivered with your project.
  • Commercial Assets: Stock photography, fonts, and UI kits are purchased under extended commercial licenses valid for your product indefinitely.
  • AI-Generated Content: Where AI tools are utilized for prototyping or asset generation, final outputs are human-refined and owned per standard commercial use guidelines.

We conduct a dependency audit before launch and provide a compliance report outlining all third-party components and their license terms.

4. Trademarks & Copyright Protection

That Is A Q respects intellectual property rights and maintains rigorous processes to protect both our work and our clients' brands.

Client Trademarks

Your brand names, logos, domain names, and product identifiers remain your exclusive property. We will not register, claim, or assert rights over any trademarks you provide or co-create during the engagement.

Copyright Notices

All code and design files are delivered with appropriate copyright headers. We recommend registering key creative works with your local intellectual property office. We can provide documentation and attribution records to support registration processes.

5. Infringement Reporting & Takedown Process

If you believe your intellectual property has been used by us or our partners without authorization, or if you encounter unauthorized use of That Is A Q's proprietary assets, please follow the procedure below:

  1. Email ip-legal@thatisaq.com with a detailed description of the copyrighted work
  2. Provide proof of ownership or authorized representation
  3. Specify the exact URLs, files, or locations where infringement occurs
  4. Include your contact information and a signature (digital or physical)

We commit to reviewing all DMCA and IP infringement claims within 5 business days and will take appropriate action, which may include immediate takedown, license verification, or legal resolution.
