Understanding the Layout Zones

When designing for cylindrical drinkware, flat artwork must account for printing tolerances, paper grain, and the curve of the cup. Our layout structure consists of three critical zones: Bleed, Trim, and Safe Zone. Maintaining these boundaries prevents unwanted white edges and protects vital branding from being cut off or wrapped unevenly.

Technical Specifications

Bleed Area 0.125" (3mm) beyond trim Extend background/images fully to this edge. No critical elements here.
Safe Zone 0.25" (6mm) inside trim Keep logos, text, and barcodes within this boundary to avoid cutoff.
Color Mode CMYK Do not submit RGB. Convert to CMYK for accurate press output.
Resolution 300 DPI at 100% Vector artwork preferred. Raster images must be high-res.

Cup-Specific Printing Considerations

💡 Pro Tips for Cylindrical Wrap-Arounds

  • Seam Allowance: Leave a 0.5" unprinted margin on the left and right edges to ensure clean binding without glue bleed.
  • Distortion Mapping: Cylindrical surfaces stretch artwork. Avoid placing critical text near the extreme left/right edges.
  • Texture & Grain: Kraft and recycled fibers absorb ink differently. Test metallics and spot colors on physical samples first.
  • Lid Clearance: Keep logos 0.75" below the top trim to prevent interference with lids and drinking spouts.
If you're designing a sleeve rather than a full wrap, apply the same bleed/safe-zone rules but compress the height to match your sleeve dimensions. Always request a physical mockup for orders over 1,000 units to verify color matching and alignment.
