Changes to Terms of Service

📅 Published: January 15, 2025 ⚖️ Effective Date: February 1, 2025

At Dictionary, we are committed to providing a transparent and evolving service that meets your needs. We are implementing updates to our Terms of Service to reflect new features, clarify data usage practices, and align with current industry standards. These changes will take effect on February 1, 2025.

Summary of Key Changes

  • Feature Update

    AI-Powered Language Tools

We are introducing AI-driven definitions, contextual translations, and smart synonym suggestions. These tools process queries server-side and do not store personal search history without explicit consent.

  • Policy Update

    Subscription & Billing Clarifications

Updated provisions regarding Pro and Enterprise subscription tiers, including prorated refunds, auto-renewal notices (sent 7 days before billing), and grace periods for failed payments.

  • Data & Privacy

    Enhanced Data Minimization

Revised Section 8 to reflect our commitment to data minimization. We now retain anonymized usage analytics for a maximum of 13 months, and all personal identifiers are encrypted at rest and in transit.

  • Policy Update

    Acceptable Use Guidelines

Clarified restrictions on automated scraping, commercial redistribution of dictionary content, and API rate limits for non-paid tiers to ensure service stability for all users.
