What is MBSR?

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a structured, 8-week program developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. It combines mindfulness meditation, body awareness, and yoga to help participants respond to stress, pain, and illness with greater clarity and resilience.

Unlike casual meditation apps, MBSR is a clinically validated intervention with thousands of peer-reviewed studies supporting its effectiveness for anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia, and emotional well-being.

  • Reduces cortisol levels and physiological stress markers
  • Improves focus, emotional regulation, and sleep quality
  • Builds sustainable habits for long-term mental wellness
  • Supported by insurance & workplace wellness programs

Weeks 1-2: Introduction to mindfulness, body scan, awareness of automatic pilot

Weeks 3-4: Mindful movement, yoga basics, observing thoughts without judgment

Weeks 5-6: Responding vs reacting, difficult emotions, stress physiology

Weeks 7-8: Integration, life planning, sustaining practice beyond the course

Includes: Weekly 2.5hr group sessions, 45min daily audio practices, one 6hr silent retreat, and personalized guidance.

All In Therapy MBSR instructors are certified through the Brown University Center for Mindfulness or UMass CFUMI. They hold clinical licenses (LCSW, LPC, PsyD) and maintain 500+ hours of teaching experience.

Our instructors undergo rigorous fidelity training to ensure your experience aligns with the original, evidence-based protocol.

MBSR has been studied in 500+ clinical trials. Meta-analyses show moderate-to-large effects on perceived stress (d=0.51), anxiety (d=0.44), and depression (d=0.38). Neuroimaging studies demonstrate measurable changes in brain regions associated with emotional regulation and attention.
