Virgin & Recycled Paper
The industry standard for hot beverages. Virgin paper offers superior stiffness and print clarity, while recycled paper reduces deforestation. Both are lined for liquid resistance.
PLA (Polylactic Acid)
A plant-based thermoplastic derived from corn starch or sugarcane. PLA is compostable in industrial facilities, offers excellent clarity, and works well for cold drinks and lids.
PET & rPET Plastic
Polyethylene terephthalate provides crystal clarity and impact resistance. rPET incorporates post-consumer recycled content without sacrificing strength or transparency.
Bamboo & Bagasse
Molded fiber from sugarcane bagasse or bamboo pulp. Naturally grease-resistant, heat-tolerant, and fully biodegradable. Ideal for bowls, noodle containers, and eco-branded packaging.

🌍 Sustainability & Compliance Notes
Not all "eco-friendly" labels mean the same thing. We recommend reviewing these key distinctions before finalizing your order:
- Compostable vs. Biodegradable: Compostable materials break down into soil within a controlled timeframe (ASTM D6400 / EN 13432). Biodegradable only indicates eventual breakdown, which may take years.
- Industrial vs. Home Compostable: PLA requires high-temperature commercial facilities. Bagasse and certified paper products can often decompose in home compost bins.
- Recyclability Reality: Paper cups with PE or PLA liners are rarely accepted in standard paper recycling streams. We offer mono-material recyclable options upon request.
- Certifications: All Cup Source materials meet FDA 21 CFR, EU 10/2011, and FSC® chain-of-custody standards where applicable.
Material FAQ
Standard paper cups are not recommended for microwave use due to the plastic liner and potential metal accents. For heated food service, we suggest our bagasse or certified microwave-safe paperboard containers.
PLA lids are plant-based and compostable in industrial facilities, while standard PP (polypropylene) lids are durable, reusable, and recyclable in many municipal programs. PLA softens above 60°C, making PP a better choice for very hot beverages.
Yes. All our paper substrates use water-based PE or PLA liners, and we are fully PFAS-free. We also supply 100% post-consumer recycled paper and bagasse options that contain no petroleum-based plastics.
