Assume good faith in others' intentions. Approach disagreements as opportunities to learn, not battles to win. Present counterarguments in a constructive manner and acknowledge when others make valid points. Steelman your opponent's argument before responding to it.

Offer nuanced takes that go beyond surface-level reactions. Consider historical precedents, alternative viewpoints, and potential consequences.

Ask questions that invite deeper exploration. Example: "Has anyone looked at how this policy affected the 2019 elections in the same region? I'd be curious to see the longitudinal data."

Thank journalists for thorough reporting, acknowledge other commenters who made insightful points, and celebrate quality discussion when you find it.

Any content that attacks, degrades, or incites violence against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, national origin, or any other protected characteristic. This includes coded language, dog whistles, and historical revisionism used to justify discrimination.

Targeted intimidation, sustained attacks on individuals, threats (implicit or explicit), or encouraging others to harass a specific person. Repeatedly returning to a single commenter to criticize them across multiple articles constitutes harassment.

Deliberate spread of false information about public health, elections, disasters, or any topic with real-world consequences. Fabricated statistics, doctored images/videos presented as authentic, and knowingly false claims about verified events are prohibited. Honest disagreement with interpretation is not misinformation.

Promotional content, referral links, self-promotion, coordinated commenting campaigns, bot activity, vote manipulation, or any attempt to artificially amplify or suppress content. This includes cross-posting the same comment across multiple articles.

Sharing personally identifiable information (addresses, phone numbers, private images, government IDs) of yourself or others without explicit consent. This includes "doxxing" individuals mentioned in articles or other commenters.

Sexually explicit material, graphic violence descriptions, child exploitation content, or content that glorifies self-harm. This includes links to or references of such material regardless of context.

Our moderation system operates on three layers: automated filters catch obvious violations in real-time, human moderators review flagged content and handle nuanced situations, and community reporting allows readers to flag content for review. All moderation decisions are documented and can be appealed.

Submit your appeal through our moderation appeals portal with a detailed explanation. Appeals are reviewed by a senior moderator within 5 business days. Note: Filing a false or frivolous appeal may itself be considered a violation.
