Printing & Customization Guidelines

Technical specifications, template setup, and artwork submission standards for Cup Source custom orders.

1

File Requirements

All artwork must be submitted in print-ready format. Files that do not meet these specifications may be returned for revision, which can delay production.

Accepted Formats

AI, PDF (vector preferred), EPS, TIFF, PNG (300 DPI)

Color Mode

CMYK only. RGB files will be auto-converted and may shift.

Resolution

Minimum 300 DPI at 100% scale for all raster elements.

Bleed & Safe Zone

3mm bleed | 5mm safe margin inside trim edge.

  • Convert all text to outlines/paths before submission.
  • Ensure high-contrast elements (light text on light backgrounds) are avoided.
  • Do not use CMYK process blacks for large solids; use C:50 M:40 Y:40 K:100 or spot black.
  • Embed all fonts and link all images within the PDF/AI package.
2

Template Setup

Use our official templates to ensure your design aligns perfectly with the cup structure, rim, and base. Templates include pre-set bleed, trim, and safe zones.

SAFE ZONE
Keep text/logos here

Orange border = Final Trim | Dashed line = Safe Zone | Outer area = Bleed Extension

Color Specifications

We use high-quality water-based and UV-curable inks optimized for food-safe substrates. Color reproduction depends on material type and printing method.

  • Pantone Matching: Available for orders 10,000+ units. Spot colors incur a minimum setup fee.
  • CMYK Conversion: Vivid RGB screens colors (neon pinks, electric blues) will shift. We recommend viewing digital proofs under D50 lighting.
  • Dark Backgrounds: For printing on colored cups, a white underbase is applied automatically. This may affect final vibrancy.
  • Eco-Printing Limits: Compostable/PLA materials use vegetable-based inks. Metallic and fluorescent tones are not supported.

Recommended Safe Colors

P:485C (Cup Source Orange) | P:17-1446 TCX | P:18-1442 TCX

Avoid

Pure black (C0 M0 Y0 K100), uncoated metallic foils on heat cups

Material-Specific Guidelines

Different substrates require specific handling during the printing process. Please review the constraints below for your selected product line.

Material Print Method Key Restrictions
Standard Paper Offset / Gravure Heat-resistant inks only. No food-contact printing on inner surface.
Biodegradable/PLA Flexo / Water-based Limited color gamut. No spot UV or gloss coatings. Compostable certification applies.
PET / Cold Cups Digital / Solvent Condensation-resistant coating applied post-print. Avoid sharp vector edges on curved surfaces.
Polystyrene / Foam Screen Print Max 2 colors per run. Minimum order 5,000 units. No full wrap designs.

Food Safety Note: All inks and adhesives comply with FDA 21 CFR and EU 10/2011 regulations. Printing is strictly applied to the exterior non-contact surface.

5

Proofing & Approval Process

Every custom order goes through a structured proofing workflow to ensure accuracy before production begins.

  1. Digital Proof (48hrs): We generate a high-resolution PDF showing your design wrapped on the product model. Check for typos, alignment, and color intent.
  2. Physical Sample (7-10 days): For bulk orders, we produce a printed sample on actual material. This is the only accurate representation of final output.
  3. Approval: Reply with "Approved" or request revisions. Note: More than 2 revision rounds may incur fees.
  4. Production: Begins immediately upon written approval. Lead times start from this point.

Disclaimer: Digital proofs are for layout verification only. Monitor calibration varies. Always approve based on physical samples when possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

We strongly discourage raster-only formats. JPEGs lack bleed/safe zones and compress quality. PSDs often contain hidden layers and CMYK conversion issues. Please use AI or PDF.

Yes. For orders over 5,000 units, our in-house design team provides one free round of layout optimization. Complex branding work requires a separate creative brief.

CMYK process printing matches within 5-7% Delta E. Spot Pantone matches are within 2-3% Delta E. Material texture and coating can slightly alter perceived saturation.

Standard custom print MOQ is 3,000 units per SKU. Lower quantities may be available with digital printing (higher per-unit cost, limited color options).
