"The Svalbard expedition exceeded every expectation. Seeing a polar bear family from the Zodiac was surreal, but the true magic was the silence of the Arctic at dusk. The guides knew the tides and wildlife patterns like the back of their hands."

Polar Travel FAQ

Answers to everything you need to know before booking your journey.

What is the best time of year for Arctic vs Antarctic trips? +

The Arctic (Svalbard, Greenland, Iceland) is best visited from March to June for optimal wildlife viewing and milder temperatures. Antarctica's prime season runs from November to March, with December-February offering the mildest weather and longest daylight hours for maximum exploration.

Do I need prior expedition experience? +

Most of our polar expeditions are designed for fit beginners to intermediate hikers. We provide comprehensive pre-trip fitness guides and onboarding sessions. For advanced ice climbing or remote glacier trekking, we do require baseline experience, but we'll clearly mark those trips.

How do you handle medical emergencies in remote areas? +

All trips include satellite communication devices, onboard medical kits, and guides certified in Wilderness First Response. We partner with Arctic & Antarctic emergency evacuation services. Every guest must have comprehensive travel insurance, which we help you secure at booking.

What gear do you provide vs. what I need to bring? +

We supply expedition-grade outer shells, thermal boots, Zodiac suits, and all technical climbing/safety equipment. Guests are responsible for personal layered clothing, sleep systems, and personal medications. A detailed packing checklist is emailed 60 days before departure.
