Everything you need to know before enrolling in a training program.
For our Beginner programs, no prior experience is needed — just a willingness to learn and a basic level of fitness. Intermediate and Advanced programs require demonstrated experience, which we assess during our pre-enrollment consultation to ensure you're placed in the right level.
We provide a detailed gear list 4 weeks before your program starts. Most technical equipment (ropes, harnesses, ice axes, crampons) is provided. You'll need personal gear like boots, clothing layers, and a sleeping bag. We also offer gear rentals for personal items.
We maintain small group sizes for maximum learning. Beginner classes have a 1:6 ratio, Intermediate is 1:4, and Advanced is 1:3 or even 1:2 for technical programs. For multi-day expeditions, we add assistant guides to maintain safety standards.
Depending on the program, you may receive: Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification, AMGA Alpine Guide Level 1, backcountry navigation certificate, or our proprietary SummitX training completion certificate. All certifications are recognized by major outdoor organizations.
Full refund if cancelled 60+ days before start. 50% refund between 30–60 days. Within 30 days, we offer a credit transfer to a future program. We also offer rescheduling (one free date change) for weather or emergency situations. Adventure cancellation insurance is available for purchase.
Each program lists specific fitness benchmarks on its detail page. Generally, Beginner requires the ability to hike 10 miles with a 20lb pack. Intermediate requires 15 miles with 25lb pack plus comfort on steep terrain. Advanced requires demonstrated multi-day endurance. We provide training plans 8 weeks before each program.
Most programs are open to ages 18+. We offer youth programs (ages 14–17) for Beginner and select Intermediate courses with parental consent. There's no upper age limit — participants over 65 are required to provide a medical clearance form from their physician.
